Black Screen following Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 install - What Next?

In short my 120GB Acer Aspire One was running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I 'upgraded'
to 9.10 UNR and all I get is a Black screen.

Now I have the older 9.04 version on a USB stick, but need to know how to have
the machine boot this so I can re-install it. The default is the hard disk
at present. Help desperately needed as the item is a promised present having
agreed to sell item to a friend.

What can I do next ?

A lot of people have had problems with the upgrade. Usually a fresh
installation restores things. Get a Live CD of Ubuntu 9.10 on an external
drive or usb key and back up your data then install a fresh copy of Ubuntu.
You can try to troubleshoot it but you may have other problems yet
undiscovered from the upgrade.
