I was eventually able to
connect to my work domain and to the web by manually setting the IP,
subnet mask and gateway. The one line (and this is the main reason
things weren't connecting) that I had to manually DELETE was the
broadcast number given by Ubuntu. For some reason when I had NO
broadcast number things worked but when there was one (10.0.0.254) it
wouldn't connect me to the web, only to the domain. Go figure.
Thanks all for advice given. It set me on the right road.
