Display Problem

Having a problem with vertical streaks and smearing of the display with UBUNTU
and XBUNTU. I have used Linux systems that use Xvesa and they look fine on the
same machine.

Computer is a Compaq 5070, SIS-530 video card, 288 MB RAM and a 4 GB hard drive
with 3 GB for Linux and the other 1 GB for Win 98.

what resolution are you using? i get those until i change to 1024 x
768. imagine it is the same thing.

Yes, I have tried that as well as other resolutions. Also tried "Fluxbox"
and "Icewm" but same problem. I think what I need is to be able to run Xvesa
as that has worked with other Linux systems.
