Suspend keeps everything in ram- thus powered on. You want the hibernate
command, which, as i recall, was a bug that exists on earlier Ubuntus such
that it just doesn't work. I got it to work ok with 9.04, only problem is
that booting from hibernate takes between 5 and 10 minutes...
