Be careful and back up EVERY THING you need to save.

I installed 6.10 Ubuntu first as i had the disk from a book [no other
reason!]. I found that things didn't quite run as i liked when running
with xubuntu-desktop and ubuntu. Removing packages seemed to have one or
two glitches. Once i'd managed to get my portable CD writer working i
downloaded 6.06.

You can upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10 from the update manager - but 6.10 not
available as a download. I wanted to install xubuntu as i wanted to have
the minimum and install what i wanted [some things really irritate me
with ubuntu e.g. evolution as default - i like thunderbird and have used
it for a long while. Daft to say in a manual that users of outlook
should import to thunderbird in order to then import to evolution!].

Beware 6.10 i found a large number of updates were installed. I'd say
stay with 6.06 which is what i've changed to. There weren't that many
changes between the two - it would seem as you say less bugs. The main
change seemed to be in the boot-up routine and shutdown. I am going to
try an download 7.04 this afternoon just for interest - but i'm able to
test on a spare machine.

There must be someone near you who'd burn a copy of their 6.10 disk for
you. Perhaps there is a local users group near you. I'm staying with
6.06 and hoping that the sacrifice of later enhancements is the better
option compared with less bugs.

I think ubuntu would be better with an annual version rather than 6
monthly [...when there aren't that many improvements in such a short
space of time]. Case of "keeping up with the Jones'" i feel!
