Team viewer in ubuntu using Wine

Date: Dec 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 929

I am used to using team viewer in windows. Therefore, I wanted to install
teamviewer on ubuntu as well. I tried accessing teamviewer.exe using wine
(version 1.1.40).
After I downloaded the setup file for teamviewer, I ran the exe file using wine.
Apparently, it worked fine. But, when I ran the final teamviewer.exe files to
execute the software, i get a message in the panel "opening team viewer", and
after few seconds the message disappears and nothing happens.
I also tried to run the exe file from the terminal by typing
"root@musabbir:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/TeamViewer/Version5# wine
TeamViewer.exe" and I get the following error

I tried looking for a similar solution on the web, but no one seems to have
discussed this issue.
I would be very grateful if anyone had a similar problem and can help me out on
that.

I am not familiar with the programme. However, Wine does not always work
with every programme. You can go to the Codeweavers website and check out
whether this programme is supported by Wine or Crossover Office which costs
money but has more compatibility. See;
www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/

I think that it is still a work in progress. See:
www.codeweavers.com/.../name?app_id=6750

My preferred method is to install Windows in a VM using Virtualbox. You need
a Windows copy to do this, but once it is set up it gives full Windows
compatibility and Windows cannot tell if it is on a real drive or virtual
drive. If you get it from Virtualbox.org and not from the repositories you
have more features in Virtuabox. Both are free. Once Windows is installed
you can install your applications and it works better than in Wine because
it is Windows.

You could also look into open source solutions that do the same thing, if
you don't need a specific application. See:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VNC
and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VNC/Clients

This is not my area of expertise. Perhaps someone with experience can help
you.

I first thought of using VNC, but then I was not sure that I will be able to
transfer files using VNC. And also, I read the forums on the web and people
managed to get TeamViewer to work using Wine. So, I thought that I must be doing
something insanely wrong. I will wait and see for a while if anyone on this
group can help me out.

There is different alternatives to this program. Unless you want to pay for
codewever.
The Linux alternatives are
gnome-rdp
RealVNC
Both are in Synaptic.
