I am using Ubuntu edgyeft on a HPpavillian a720n Amd athalonXPcomputer. I cant log in. I get a message " the greeter aplicationappears to be crashing Attempting to use another". The Genome loginwindow appears but will not accept or at least does not start my desktop. I get a new Genome log in window.We had a power outage a couple of days ago and several applicatinsstopped running or began running improperly. My inclination is to reinstall but would like to save this install if anyone has any good idea's
Forgot to mention, am now runing Ubuntu off of a dvd. Dreat thing this!
Are you booting up with the CD or opening up after windows has booted up?
I have been booting from the hard drive but booted from the CD to get online with e-mail. Needing to get back to work so I went ahead andreinstalled from cd. I would still like to know how to fix the problemas it is all part of the learning curve.
It could of been that more than one package broken and cause and effect. Afteryou logged in you could of runsudo fsckand see if it would fix any thing broken. It could be a defect in the DVD, itcould of been any thing that caused it.
