Does anyone know if an HP CP1025 Laserjet Printer will work straight out of the
box on Ubuntu 10.04?

I don't see it listed in the HP drivers for Kubuntu 10.04 so it probably
won't work easily. However, if you do a search for your model number and
follow the links and menus through you will eventually come to a website
where you can download the open source drivers for Ubuntu.

It has to be marked as executable and run in a terminal window. From then on
its only moderately scary!

Good luck, and let us know how it works for you. I'm still installing for my
laserjet 1018. Fairly long install.

I have one and it took no tile at all to install and runs fine - you need to
install HPLIP from the repositories.

I've installed HPLIP and the printer arrives tomorrow.

Hplip enhances my other laserjet printer. I'll let you know what happens.

It all works fine but it needed a slightly different version of HPLIP than the
one that was staed to work. It sorted it all out once I was on the internet with
the printer connected.

Happy to hear that. I am still having troubles getting the printer to work
with some programs on my wife's Vista machine ...

Then you need to go to the web site and get Vista drivers for it.

I don't think that i would ever have thought of that :)

We have two problems - I. Certain programs simply will not print and 2. With
the printer connected, the Vista machine does not come out of hibernation.

Should I down load the driver again do you think?

You must remove the old driver first via Start/Control panel/printers
and the software via Add /Remove Programs.
