error message with wrong printer driver package

Date: Dec 24    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 395

I think I have stumbled on the problem....

Opening Synaptic Package Manager

Closing the error message shuts down Synaptic Package Manager.

I tried downloading the package again, and installing it, which seems to
have happened; however, the error message continues.

Then I managed to stumble onto another message...

software index broken use command:
sudo apt-get install-f
but I get another error message that there is no command -f

You do not need any commands or manual. It can be done through the GUI
with Synaptic.

Go to Settings| Administration| Synaptic. After giving your password,
Search for Gutenprint. Then it will bring up all instances of
Gutenprint. If cupsys-driver-gutenprint is not installed then check it
to install by right clicking on it and then choose Mark for
installation. If it prompts you to install dependencies answer yes. Then
click the Apply button. While you are there make sure that foomatic is
installed (has a green box).. If not install it.

Now try installing the printer once again now that the drivers are
installed. Go to |Settings |Administration | Printing. click on |
Printer | Add a Printer. It should bring load the database and then you
can install the Brother printer. It has to be there because I use it all
of the time.
