Printer Sharing

I have a HP printer interfaced to my Ubuntu computer. I have a
Windows Vista machine in the house which has the router interfaced to
it. I have no problem accessing the internet through the router. I am
trying to share this printer with the Vista machine. I installed
Sambas and it installed and now on the Vista machine i can see this
computer on the network list. However I cannot log in to it and it
does not show the printer. I set the printer to shared. Is there a
configuration for sambas i need to do? What am i missing here?

My problem, which started the thread was that I couldn't find drivers
(and didn't know which generic ones) that would operate the Canon i865
in Linux. I can get to the printer connected to the windows computer but
cannot connect it as I don't have drivers. That's where I'm seeking
help. Sorry it wasn't clear.

I configured my printers to the Windows machine and then used them as a
print server. It seems to work pretty well. You just have to have the
windows machine on to print.

I find it hard to believe that I got I865 drivers in the GUTSY distribution,
and YOU didn't.
If you need to... I'll walk you through the menus and find them for you...

I'd appreciate that. I've been thinking (though I doubt it) that the
drivers are available in Ubuntu & not in Kubuntu which I use. As I said
I doubt it but would really appreciate a walk through to solve the problem.

As I wrote in an answer to KDE4 I am deliberating about Hardy. THE
reason I'm considering going to Hardy now is that I've read that it
contains Canon drivers. If I could solve the problem in Gutsy I'd be
more than happy as I don't feel I qualified to use a beta version of
Linux (too much of a newbie :-) ).

I compared yours to mine, and there are
differences. Some of them seem unimportant. I'll copy the different
lines from your sources list and would appreciate it if you'd advise on
whether I should change my sources list to match yours. I think seeing
the differences will be more effective than me explaining. I've only
copied those that are missing in mine or different(and these are the
majority)

These are the url's I don't have
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu gutsy main
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates universe
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates multiverse

In these the word "US" doesn't exist - I presume that is because I'm not
in the States? Mine starts with the word "ARCHIVE". The rest of the url
is the same.
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy multiverse
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-backports main restricted
universe multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-backports main
restricted universe multiverse

These aren't offered to me but I see you don't use them as they are with
a hash
# deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu gutsy partner
# deb-src http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu gutsy partner

I have all these url's BUT the word "SECURITY" is replaced in mine by
the word "ARCHIVE". The rest of the url is the same
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security main restricted
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security main restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security universe
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security multiverse
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu gutsy-security multiverse

Comments??

Are you having problems LOCATING the driver with Gutsy BECAUSE
it's the LAST (well, next to) printer driver in the list.
What are the LAST two drivers on YOUR Canon List?

Answer #8    Answered On: Dec 28

The last two canon drivers listed are Selphy-CP-600 & Selphy-CP-710. The
only printer drivers I have witthe letter "i" are imagerunner330s and ip
4000.
