I've also noticed, firefox does not release memory allocated to it if you
close a lot of tabs or a window that had a lot of tabs open. I'm not sure
if that is the OS or the program, but that is what I have noticed. seems
the same with the latest firefox in both windows and linux. Not sure if
that could be what the OP was encountering or not... but thought I would
throw in my few cents.
