11.10 is the latest version. Have you tried it? It may have this
problem fixed. If not, then consider the following...

It looks like 11.04 version might ship with the nouveau nividia driver,
which is broken for your driver version. Granted I am just getting this
information from Google, as I have no experience with nividia graphics.

Somewhere near the top is a description of the nouveau packages that need
to be removed and how to install the nivedea-current packages.

Here is another way to install the nivedea current packages:

Maybe that will get you started? You would probably have to use the
alternate installer to install, then boot into recovery mode, then add new
drivers... Assuming that is the problem.
