I`m using the Ubuntu 7.10 tribe 5 release, who comes by default with
Compiz-Fusion.
My question is, where can I change the windows decoration? Cause it`s don`t come
with EMERALD.

I am not very proficient at computers and want to learn how to use Ubuntu
since I read somewhere that it is the most user-friendly version of Linux.

I am not sure how to go about this but here I go -

I have Xandros installed on my machine but I want to remove it and
instally Ubuntu since I have been unsuccessful in learning how to use
Xandros. I have no idea as to how this is to be done.

My machine is a P4 2.0 1.0GB RAM WinXP Pro SP2 (alongwith Xandros which I
recently installed with kind help from someone). My 4 Windows partitions
are C:, E:, F: and G: and total size of G: used to be 51.2GB (55GB) but
after installing Xandros it is now 29.0GB.

Will this 29.0GB stay the same after removing Xandros and installing
Ubuntu or will the free space reduce further? Since I want to continue
using my WinXP till I learn how to use Ubuntu properly, I dont want to
lose any data from my Window's G: partition.

I would be grateful if instructions/help for the below are given in simple
terms since I am not good at computers (and totally zero in Linux!) -

1)How to remove/uninstall Xandros, and
2)How to install Ubuntu. (I have got a Ubuntu 7.10 CD from my monthly
computer magazine).

I am not really sure that you will find Ubuntu any more user friendly than
XandrOS. XandrOS
is one of those "about as close to WinDoze as you can get out of the box"
distros of
Linux that you are going to find. Ubunutu is going to require you to do a
bit more configuring and installing of apps to get it close to XandrOS. I
think you should stick with it a little longer and
do some Google searching to find yourself some manuals or books on the
subject.

Linspire or Freespire is a very easy use distro. The crown jewel feature is the
CNR. You could install the CNR too for Ubuntu. You may want to use Gparted to
see what your partitions are. There is good support for Linspire/Freespire. But
is does not match the awsome support of Ubuntu forums site. You do not need to
un install Xandros. The new linux distro will just take over that partition as
long you tell it to take that part of the HD. It pounds it right out and will
install a boot grub loader.

What are the uses of cnr/what does it do?

The CNR in a nut shell. Lets you DL apps at one click. Not all the apps are for
free. Like restricted codecs like MP3 or DVD. It is like synaptic on steroids.
You pay for the non free and DL the free. You will find many of the apps in
synaptic that you find in CNR. It is a cash cow in a way. Yet, at one click you
install the program and all the libs if needed. Most Ubie user do not need it or
want it. It is a band width hog.

Ubuntu with Sypnaptic as the downlaod
manager is as easy as you can get. You don't really need to touch the
command line at all.

I am not saying that Ubuntu is a hard distro to deal with for newbs,
but XandrOS is just as easy or easier to use since it was developed to
be a WinDoze replacement desktop and to just work out of the box. I
played with it when it first came out and it was doing what Ubuntu is
now 2 or 3 years ago as far as ease of use.
