These Ubuntu "upgrades" are developing the same poor reputation as
Windows "upgrades".

A Mepis.org KDE Debian Etch user, myself.

A "Mount" is what you are trying to do with your CD drives.

My electricity went out just as I sent
this,it just now came on. Looks like I may have to go back to &.04 and
burn 7.10.

place a cd or dvd in the player and make sure that the following is in
your /etc/fstab file
/dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec 0 0

then make sure your /media directory has 2 sub directories
cdrom and cdrom0
then run the following line
sudo mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0
you should get a cdrom icon on the desktop but sometimes you don't. In
any case you can click on cdrom0 and read the contents

Can you please tell why my USB drive won't mount
after an update to ubuntu 7.10?

The USB drive shows with other drives in "my computer"
but it will not mount.

was fine.

I would have thought there is a problem somewhere with the 7.10
upgrade. I burnt to disk then installed when i did it and no problems.
When ubuntu installs from CD it looks for the drivers on the
internet... installing from internet i wonder if it can search the
same way.

I had found this on ubuntu forums and did not work. I upgraded to 8.04 of the
internet. It cured the problem for me. I reported it as a bug and also found
there was abug in the online installer. If anyone is brave enough to use 8.04 I
have had no problems yet.
