Printer Issue

Date: Dec 12    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 220

Just upgraded to 8.10, although initial attempt to install printer
was on 8.04.

Printer setup wants to use driver for DCP1200 and installs
"Ghostscript HL-1250 even though information from Brother--
Mo-Info1.txt --specifies driver Ghostscript hl7x0 for Brother DCP 1000
and DCP 1200.

Will the following command line replace the currently installed driver
which does not work (Won't print the Test Page)? Is this complete or
do I need to specify filename and folder?

cat input.ps | gs -q -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=hl7x0 -sOutputfile=-
- | lpr

When I click the CHANGE box after opening Properties, I get nowhere.

Any advice or help will be appreciated. I gave up on Linux years ago
when I was unable to configure my then printer.

DCP-1000 is reported to NOT work!

You can buy a Linux compatible HP printer "all-in-one" for less than $50.

Looks like there is a cups driver after all here:

I have a Brother DCP 7020 and it installs and works perfectly in every
distro that I have installed (and that is just about all of them).

The Ubuntu repositories have lots of Brother drivers. Search in Synaptic for
Brother. You want brother-cups-wrapper-laser1. Your printer is listed. It is in
the Word Processing (multiverse) section.

If there is no specific driver for your Brother printer in the repos then go
to brother itself,

here is the link to the USA linux driver site
