Easy to install wireless usb adapter

Date: Feb 05    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 391

I am new here and am eager to use ubuntu on at least 2 computers.
Can anyone recommend an external wireless adapter that will work
on most any laptop or desktop.(plug and play, hopefully)

I run XP also and another family
member has Vista.

The Ubuntu version installed was 11.04.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone might be able
to share.

Most adapters based on the Ralink chipset are plug and go, it's the
Broadcom chipset that tends to have problems.

I do know that the ZyXel G202 adapter is plug and go.

BTW - if you need IEEE 802.11n support this can be tricker so more
research will be needed to verify those that work for sure.

The Ubuntu hardware compatibility list is a good start ...

.. or the generic hardware list for Linux ...

I have a TP-Link TL-WN722N which works "out of the box" with Ubuntu 11.04 or
Mint 11. Earlier versions of the kernel might not support it.

There's no messing around with drivers, "it just works."
