10.4 Slow Internet

Date: Nov 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 370

I am running 10.4 64 bit with an intel quad core processor and 8GB of
ram. Everything was lightning fast until I installed the latest kernel
update. There were about 45 updates a couple days ago. I also cleaned
out the firefox cache.

Now when I try to load any web page it is like I have dial up again. It
takes forever, and usually the site only loads the text and links all
lined up along the left side. If I re-load a few times the background
and pictures will usually show up.

Any idea what could be wrong?

I ran into something similar recently. Turned out it was my router/firewall
that was dying.

This is caused by Flash player with the wealth of advertisement. You can use FF
blocker to stop that. The other is Java. Web site look at what you are using and
try8ing to compensate what version you are using. Since Java is not longer owned
by Sun. The update is going to be slow. Oracle is now in charge and it may be
open office.

I powered off our modem and router, then had to clone the mac address in
the router and that seemed to fix it. Will have to remember this in
future. Thanks for the suggestions.
