They helped my understanding of the
process, but not the functioning of the system. Still won't see the
network, no ping, no activity led. The Windows machine sitting right
next to this one will work fine with this adapter. So that means the
signal is strong enough, the MAC adressing is fine and the adapter is
fine. Ubuntu sees the adapter, allows me to configure it yet won't use
it........
I won't give up, yet. I really want to try Ubuntu! But it has to work.
