I would give Xubuntu a shot. I ran it quite successfully on my PIII/256MB
ThinkPad.

I am also impressed with Puppy Linux. Leaves room to spare on a 700MB CDROM and
runs usefully speedy on my P4 desktop w/512MB RAM.
