Here is what I would do...

I would boot the CD in question on a known good PC and run the CD check that is
part of the Ubuntu Live CD. Depending on the results, if good try to install
again, if bad do 1 through 4 below.

1) DL 9.04 again.
2) Create another CD with K3B or Brasero.
3) Boot that new CD and run the CD check.
4) If all that goes well then do the install.
