Question Answered By: Adah Miller   on Jan 07

There are aspects of Linux and Ubuntu with which I am somewhat
comfortable. The file structure of Ubuntu is not one of those aspects.
I have been using Ubuntu for almost a year now and have installed many
packages. I don't believe that all those files are held under /home. I
would like to move to the new disk with the least practical effort.

Maybe if I understood better how the various directories under root were
organized I would be better able to cope with this. For example, if all
the files for the various packages were kept under /home and /usr, I
could install 7.04 on the new disk then copy the files from those two
directories from the old disk to the new disk. (/home and /usr are just
examples.) Is it something that simple or is there more to it than that?
