Do you want to know about activatable RMI in Java too, or you've just
targeted CORBA? Regarding that, this is a Java mailing list, I think, you
want Activation in Java's implementation of CORBA :), RMI. Sorry if it's
irrelevant.

"Java has 'rmid', which is used to handle activatable requests. You can
deploy services in rmid's registry and start up rmid in boot time. (in
UNIX using inetd or so). Recently, there has been a lot of interest in
this field and Sun introduced JERI (RMI's competitor for writing secure
activatable services)."
