Xubuntu 8.04 - WEP settings gone

Date: Dec 25    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 441

The original topic regarded the upgrade from kernel ..16 to ..17 had a
bad impact on the WEP wi-fi settings.

Now, sadly, the problem has returned. Returns with every bootup.
Seems that the WEP-related settings stored in /etc/network/interfaces
do not stick. The WEP key stays put (which is good) but the "mode"
and "channel" settings get blown out each bootup.

I'm going to google around to see if there's any way that I can edit
this file (only once) and have the settings stick.

This is somewhat of a bummer, because under 7.10, xubuntu held onto
the WEP settings no matter how many times the kernel was updated.

I don't wish to carry this issue further.

I'm led to believe that the network manager GUI
has been causing the problem. I commented out the
line auto eth0 and now it seems that each bootup is
fine in terms of wifi.

I also downloaded wifi radar and will use that when
I need to map to another wifi hotspot and at some point
I will probably dump the network manager GUI entirely.
