Outboard hard drive problem

Date: Feb 12    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 371

I am using an Asus eeee Netbook running Ubuntu 10.04 with an
attached GB hard drive. For months this had worked flawlessly. However,
actions of the outboard hard drive is now driving me loco. After start up
and in very short time the outboard hard drive directory will be displayed.
I can delete the directory, however, within seconds or minute or so the
directory will again be displayed, unwanted, uncalled for and unannounced.
This sequence will be repeated often on an irregular, erratic basis.

I am very attached to this computer, Ubuntu and to the external hard drive
if it will learn its place within the social structure. I am my wits end
trying to solve this problem by myself. I do hope that one of you Gurus
will have a quick and simple solution for me.

When you say you "deleted the directory" did you mean you closed the window? If
so, you may have an intermittent USB connection that brings up the drive
directory whenever the USB connection is restored.
