External Hard Drive

I have an external HDD (just 250GB) which I like to use for back-up
purposes but am unable to access it now as I tried something new with
it the other day but it didn't work and I am unable to undo my
settings, can anyone here help?

I tried to change some of the drive properties by right-clicking on
the icon on the main page, then selecting the settings option on the
drive tab.

Whih file system you have ? .. NTFS?

Did you ry to install de NTFS TOOLS? you can find in "had applications" just
search " NTFS" .

I had the same problem ( only with Konqueror) in Kubuntu, do the same has me
just use one desktop ( if this is your case).

It is a single XFS partition. I didn't use smaller partitions because I am not
planning to use it as an operational drive for daily use, just for back-up.

Did you try Googling for "XFS partition"?

I found a lot of info that way.

I have never used anything other than ext2, ext3, and reiserfs, so I'm
afraid I can't help with XFS.

I most certainly can't help with "change some of the drive properties
by right-clicking on
the icon", as I do all of this sort of low level stuff from the
command line. Tried and true. Not that it's the only way, it's just
the way I've been doing low level stuff since before Linux existed...

BTW, check out http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html -you
might find a way to trigger more responses. Please don't take this
suggestion in the wrong way, years ago I learned a lot myself from a
precursor to this document.
