Open and edit (translate) a pdf document

I need to open and edit (translate) a pdf document and I have forgotten how
I used to do that. I'm now running 11.04 and just opening the pdf from Libre
text doesn't do it - help appreciated.

Perhaps you used an application not currently installed. Check here for one
that you may have used:
www.ubuntugeek.com/...diting-tools-for-ubuntu.html
Then install it following the instructions or by the Software Centre or
Synaptic.

I really don't remember, getting senile a bit, but all I'm trying to do is
copy a chunk of text on a pdf document and punt it into something like a
word processor and from there to google translate so I can get a basic
content and structure to convert the blurb into proper Scandihoovian.

I downloaded some of the apps you suggested but no way am I going to spend 3
months learning the prog. It's almost done anyway even if I had to re type
the document word for word - scheesh, am I missing something here. I do
definitely remember just opening a pdf in something and it opened as an
editable whatever, maybe it was on Mac.......

Now to delete a bunch of apps I seem incapable of useing - bummer.

Is the text in the pdf you're using really text or is it an image? It's
quite common practice to convert the page of text to an image before
creating the pdf to prevent exactly what you're trying to do.

Good point and the answer is - I don't know:-(

I did open it in Libre and pages of very comprehensive gibberish turned up,
not html, something else it was. No use anyway.

I'm not trying to change anything, just translate stuff so that others too
get the message.

I didn't load anything on my 10.04 Ubuntu to read PDF files, it is
called document reader. There is a Linux program for editing PDF
file called PDFEDIT, I have loaded it but haven't tried it yet.

OpenOffice or LibreOffice does not support pdf natively, but there is
an extension called libreoffice-pdfimport and a similar one for
openoffice.org. They are in the repositories. I have not used either.
I print to pdf daily, but never have edited. Let us know what you
finally decide on.

Open your PDF file, then highlight and copy the text you want to your Web
browser. Then you can use online tools to translate and copy back to your word
processor or editor. If you have enough RAM it should go pretty smooth and
quick.
What do you think? Photos handle differently though.

I have been playing with the PDF editor. Within a few minutes you could
be up and running with this program. Using the tool to "extract text",
unless the file has been protected in some way, you will get a window
you can copy text from.

One note; anything that has been published has a copyright. You should
ask to copy for most uses unless stated otherwise. If the author likes
what you are going to do he may send you a copy that you can easily work
with. I know that I get activated when I see my work published
elsewhere, but have freely given permission to publish when asked, for
nothing more than a bi-line.

Hi,
I want to offer you some help very much. But I am not using the tool you mentioned above. As for myself, I used to open and edit a pdf document with the help of another PDF SDK. It is just one of many but I do appreciate its simple way of processing. Even though I only tried its free trial package to process PDF documents and didn't check the cost and licensing conditions, it worked great for me.Here is the information about it:

Share with you. And I hope you success. Good luck.

Best regards,
Arron
