Mirus PC

I have a friend that purchased a Mirus Linux PC from Sears and would
like to suggest he try UBUNTU but have a question. I understand the
Mirus box has a WinModem, which I guess Freespire recognizes, anyone
know if UBUNTU has a driver for it, or what modem it is?

Failing that, any comments on Freespire and the CNR software, would he
be better off with UBUNTU?

Yes, I know Freespire is based on UBUNTU.

Not any longer. Freespire/Linspire was bought by Xandros and it will be based on
Debian, like Xandros.

Both Xandros and Linspire try to replicate Windows on a Linux box. They mess
around with the file structure so that you can't foul it up, but for a Linux
user this is frustrating in the extreme. Xandros likes stability and it often
has outdated drivers and kernel as a result.

I would not recommend Freespire at this time as we don't know what plans Xandros
has for it. Xandros is one of the few commercial vendors and their own free
version is lacking in many respects. It is only a token offering so they can
maintain a mantle of supporting open source.
