Please, can anyone tell me the configuration file that is
modified by the Default Applications dialog? I want to edit it
to substitute KWrite for Kate.

Kate is the only choice indicated in the dialog's dropdown box,
and I find it a little too cumbersome for desktop viewing of
text files. KWrite's what I use, but double-clutching through a
context menu is a pita.
