Adding a 2nd hard drive to Kubuntu 8.10.

I'm trying to add a 2nd hard drive to my existing system (Kubuntu
8.10). The drive had an NTFS partition on it, which I deleted with a
Windows XP CD. I've tried partitioning it with Kubuntu's FDISK as
File System 3 and tried to set it to auto mount with Kubuntu's disk
management utility. I keep getting errors like unable to mount an
NTFS partition. If somebody could point me to an existing guide with
step-by-step instructions so I can catch what I'm doing wrong, I'd
appreciate it. I've tried Googleing for an answer but no real luck.
