what is the best way to drive an app from excel

I have an odd little windows app that needs to be run routinely. I'd
like to remove the very tedious process from my morning routine.

Does this *need* to be run  from excel???

See the previous post from Dave Horowitz with the subject
"RE: [ExcelVBA] ?Perform same task every day at same time automatically?"

the app  requires interaction to drop downs and text boxes

running the app also needs to be portable so different people can
edit and configure how it is run. I decided on excel  because there
are a number of other process  steps that already use excel but the
first involves running this app.

Explain how you automate something that "requires interaction"...

objects in a windows app  have properties

if I had for example mercury quick test pro I could capture the names
of the objects in an app and the properties and settings to drive  the
app

I may be mistaken, but don't you have to have a method to expose those
properties to access them?

You may want to look into automation products like AutoIT to start
programs and fill in the settings for you.

it depends on how the app  is written............
