I wasn't aware of that Edition prior to your comment (above).

A Google search is not clear how the CE tracks (or follows) "normal"
Ubuntu releases, so as a friendly tip it'd be useful to know what Ubuntu
release your system believes itself to be so it'd be easier to supply
release-specific help as required.

Four commands need to be typed in a terminal window to fully identify
your system and its release. To enter a terminal window, this:

Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal

works from the top menu bar in a standard Ubuntu release using Gnome.

These are the four commands to be entered in a terminal window:

cat /proc/version
uname -a
cat /etc/issue
lsb_release -a

Here is the output from my system as an example:

thad@ubuntu:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.24-21-generic (buildd@palmer) (gcc version 4.2.3
(Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #1 SMP Mon Aug 25 17:32:09 UTC 2008

thad@ubuntu:~$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP Mon Aug 25 17:32:09 UTC 2008
i686 GNU/Linux

thad@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 8.04.1 \n \l

thad@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Codename: hardy

From the output of the above commands, my system is release 8.04.1,
codenamed "Hardy", the system is named "ubuntu", and the running
kernel is version 2.6.24-21-generic. For most help requests, only the
release number is important (either "8.04" or "8.04.1" from the above)
since there are differences between releases.

The latest Ubuntu CE is based on Ubuntu 8.04 and is called Ubuntu CE 5.

fplum@fplum-desktop:~$ cat/proc/version

fplum@fplum-desktop:~$ uname -a

fplum@fplum-desktop:~$ cat/etc/issue

fplum@fplum-desktop:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 7.04

Codename: feisty

can I get a disk with the updated version somewhere?

Answer #4    Answered On: Dec 14

You can get the iso at http://www.ubuntuce.com/

Answer #5    Answered On: Dec 14

The reason I asked about a cd is that I can never get isos to work for me!

Answer #6    Answered On: Dec 14

What applications have you tried so far to mount or burn the isos?
k3b and gtk are some that come to mind (bare with me here, computer
has been boxed up now for about 4 months but was running 7.04, 7.10,
and eventually 8.04 which will probably be the last upgrade for my
machine until I build a newer one with pci-E instead of agp 8).

I've already asked quite a few questions and the
members are very helpful. I still find that I have questions. I'm sure
the members will get tired of me soon LOL! Have fun and learn lots
