Can't run Firefox

Date: Feb 05    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 369

I've had problems with Firefox for quite some time. It stops working after a
while, and I can't even restart it unless I restart the whole system. Once I do,
Firefox will run for a while again before locking up.

So I backed up my FF profile and installed FF, then re-installed. It still
doesn't work. I can't even start it, though I suspect it would start and
function for a while.

So I downloaded A Web Browser, which is the unbranded version of FF. That
doesn't start either.

So now I have no FF and I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?

Why don't you try Google Chrome for Linux?

I see Chromium, but not Google Chrome. Isn't Chromium to Chrome the same as A
Web Browser to FF, just an issue of branding?

Cromium is Googles new Desktop, Crome is the free Browser. You find it
by slicking the More link on the task bar where the Map link resides.

To add to the confusion that Google has created themselves - there's
also a web browser called chromium, plus the core of Firefox is also
called chrome .... can't these folks be a little less obtuse with
their naming schemes ....
As for Firefox - the version in the repositories is old and in order
to 'run' the latest Firefox all you have to do is download the file(s)
for it from Firefox and run. There's no actual 'install' to do and it
will run from any folder - so you can have 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 all available
if you really want !!

FWIW the usual reason for Firefox to be troublesome is incompatible
add-ons and/or corrupted profile - and given that Firefox will look
for and use a profile folder then it's imperative to remove the old
profile completely and only transfer bookmarks to a new version.

Aware of both from Google Barry as I am a beta tester for Google.

FF has a similar core but it was developed by Mozilla so is not the same.

I told him to remove it I think you would have seen.

You could also try Konqueror from the repositories, it is the browser
that comes
with Kubuntu, works somewhat like FF.
How about a complete removal of FF and a reinstall, or a complete
install of your
OS, I have 10.04 and the latest ISO is a . 03 I think which saves on
update downloads.

...and does Chrome/Chromium provide all the functionality of FF, like saving
flash video?

FF has never been a problem in my case. Did you totally remove FF before
reinstalling it.
