Question Answered By: Adah Miller   on Dec 04

Upgrades are a little more risky than fresh installs and may fail more
often, as you have found. That's why many prefer to create separate / (root)
and /home partitions when installing. The the new version can be install in
the / partition, which is re-formatted and everything in the former /home
partition is still there, i.e. data, downloads, photos etc.
