Beta 12.04 - Updates and Drivers

I'm in the same position with Ubuntu 10.10. The option I am following most
closely is Linux Mint with Cinnamon. It may have slightly higher hardware
requirements than Xubuntu, but it runs fine on my el-cheapo laptop.
