Is it possible to use Excel to send SQL commands to search in this database?

Not exactly sure!
If Excels Query add-in can see the file  as a data source, then I would say yes.
I have ran Excel SQL against data sources such an Oracle, Lotus Notes, SQL
server, Access & Excel files.
