Anyone know a UBUNTU application that can read (or convert) Windows Media Files
(.wma) ? I'm using UBUNTU 6.06 by the way, know it's not the latest but have a
reason.

Check google for Totem and wma. I know that will give you more info than I
can at the moment.

You just have to install the restricted formats.

Im not sure about doing it on 6.06 but on 8.04 I just go to Applications
> Add Remove and then find restricted drivers and that installs it.

WMW, avi, mpeg files and some like these are played well by VLC Media Player.
It is in the repositories, you can install it with sudo aptitude install vlc.
Mplayer might also be OK. It is in the repositories also. gxine could also be
useful. I like it but I rarely use it.
Does totem movie player play WMA with the suitable codecs added to it ?
VLC also plays .flv files downloaded from Youtube.

I have an AVI file that vlc refuses to play saying it doesn't have the
codecs for it. I have tried several programs that are supposed to play
AVI (visual - not sound) but can't get it to work. On the Windows side I
can't find any media player (or the correct cidecs)that will play the
AVI file except the media player installed with vista. Go figure. Any
ideas for a Linux one that can read this AVI file?
