Ubuntu 10.04 LTS forgot password

Date: Feb 11    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 519

For around 6months now, I have been running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS on a spare HD of my
DC Mac PPC.
However, I need to add wifi to this setup, but, I have forgotten my password!
To be honest, I dont really want to reinstall, at this point in time, as I just
want to watch a film.

Therefore, is there a way using the console, as the bootloader is accessed
during the boot process, to change or make a new password.

I remember, there was a way to do this in a unix dist, by using ch pass or
rewritting the user file.

I've been able to get into a Linux installation by erasing the root password. I
don't remember exactly how I did it, but it's apparently possible.

Then realised, my problem was centered on the fact, that my installation
was dualboot with Mac OS Leopard.

There by depressing L-shift or Escape, the bootloader menu was not
displayed, or was I able to access it.

I tried several combinations before, I reistalled:-)

At the moment, its running the updates. Then, I can install Flash and
watch my film on my projector.
