TB3 - Not happy with it at all

Date: Nov 29    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 182

I finally decided to move over to 10.04 and Im .... unsure of it all yet.
I tried Evolution - big mistake.
Went back to my tried and true Thunderbird.
Ok.. so far, not much better.

1) it wont filter messages.
I created a filter for the Ubuntu User list.
To or CC from the list move to the folder.
It gets only 1 in maybe 25 or so.
When I run it manually - nothing at all.
Same on Postfix and Dovecot lists.
No idea what is going on there.

2) It seems to be really slow. It keeps indexing over and over, which
brings the app to a complete halt and you can event type.

Just a little venting here. Not filtering messages is a real issue.

Did some reading and I think Im moving back to the older TB as Im not happy with
how filters are applied. I pull all my email to my computer and then use my own
little mail server to serve it up to TB but, the new TB filters based on
accounts. That means doing things in a much different way - not that Im opposed
to different but that is really creating some work rearranging my folders under
accounts instead of all my folders together.

Progress?

1. The filters work like a charm for me - 100% - you might have some
sort of simple error.
2. You can turn off the indexing - go to
edit->preferences->general->advanced and turn it off

After a lot of reading and fiddling around I finally figured out the problem.

I pull mail from several accounts to my computer, put in Maildir and then imap
to that. I set up each of those accounts in my mail client so I can send out
through them to the various emails. Whats happening is, mail is coming in and
its sorted by accounts. Its not how I work though.

I spend yesterday playing with Evolution. Setting up filters is a snap but half
the time when I click on a folder for a subfolder, the tree wouldnt expand.
Today, its like 1 in 12 clicks to get it to expand.

So I guess Im going to have to learn TB3. I installed TB2 yesterday but it acted
up and I didnt want to chance an problems.
