Intel Atom 2700MUD motherboard

... have an Intel Atom 2700MUD motherboard? I'm having fits trying to get mine
working with 4 GB of RAM. It woeks fin with either of my two 2 MB chips in
either slot, and will boot up with both in. About 2/3 of the way loading the OS
(Lubuntu 12.04, 32 bit), it reboots. It does the same when I try to boot from
the install CD.

Currently, Atom 2700 chipset motherboards cannot use more than 2Gb -
it's a hardware limit. The 2800 chipset does...

m.html

...however there's no way you can upgrade the chipset on you current
board to get this 4Gb memory support !!

Intel say it will support up to 4 GB.

I can boot into the Setup screen and get about 2/3 through the boot up into
Lubuntu before it reboots itself.

Do you have the latest BIOS? Or have you tried other Linux Distros? Lubuntu is
for older or low RAM systems usually.

I just flashed the latest stable BIOS 3 days ago. I use Lubuntu because I really
don't like the new UIs, and Gnome is a bit bloated for an Atom processor.

I'm going to try a few other distros.

And thanks to everyone offering help. This is beginning to frustrate me.

Xubuntu is also a light weight distro that you may like to try also.

Try using each of the 2Gb memory sticks one at a time. You may have a
bad RAM stick that's triggering the re-boot. Also take note of the
warnings about ventillation and using memory rated at 85C due to
passive cooling on these boards. Wouldn't exepect that to be the root
of the problems regarding getting Ubuntu installed but it's worth
being aware of it !

It may also be the board is fussy about the memory when loaded to the
maximum it can take. Wouldn't be the first time I've come across
boards that don't like particular brands of RAM !!

Update on what this board can support, according to the site below and
using a 64bit Linux OS it will take 8Gb !! Didn't think Atom chipset
could be pushed that far...

Its' seems you have plenty of power to run regular Ubie. You can Mint. It runs
off of Ubie repo's

Latest update. The problem turned out to be caused by the PCI video card I
installed because the D2700MUD MB video drivers are not yet written for Linux
and I can only get 4:3 display with the on-board video. I removed the video card
and now it works fine with 4 GB RAM, but I have no 16:9 display.

So, heads up. Intel screwed the pooch with the new chipset. No Linux drivers and
no 64 bit Windows drivers. It's a shame.

Thanks for the update and yes it's a shame Intel only seems to
consider 32bit Windows OS's on this board. Suppose you could try a
different video card but no guarantee unless you can find someone else
who got it working successfully with 'X' brand of card.

Maybe worth trying getting Ubuntu loaded using the on-board then fully
updating before plugging the PCI card back in - might just be enough
to jump past the screwed install step and get the card working.
