Help With WiFi

I'm new to Ubuntu and I need help getting my USB wifi adapter to
work. First off, I use Wubi to install Ubuntu so I don't have to
repartition and its works great.

Previously I downloaded the ndiswrapper .dep files and follow the
installatiion instructions. Its when I get to the Windows drivers I
have problems. None of the drivers on the CD for my device works with
the wrapper and after trying to install a driver I can bring up the
wireless driver install window again without reinstalling Ubuntu.

My system is a custom built AMD Athlon XP 1.2 GHz system with 1GB of
DDR333 RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Nvidia Geforce FX 5600 (which I can't
enable in the Restricted Drivers screen for some reason though its
supposed to be a supported card), SoundBlaster LIVE 24bit external,
and my wifi device is a Buffalo AirStation Wireless G 125 USB keychain
adapter model #WILI-U2-KG125S.

If you have any suggestions for me please help. I'm sick of Windows
and prefer to do most of non-gaming work in Linux but I can't access
the net without my wifi device.

Did you go to nvidia.com and click on downloads and the Linux link. Their is
a universal driver for their products and full guidance on the page how to
load it.

I intend to download the drivers from Nvidia after I reinstall Ubuntu.
It also looks like I'll have to use ethernet. I just didn't want to
have to start stringing ethernet all over the place but it looks like
there's no avoiding it.

As for IETab, it should work under Linux since its not really using
any of IE's code but emulating IE or making the website you're
visiting think you're using IE. Firefox extensions are supposed to be
platform-non-specific anyway as long as you ARE using the right
version of Firefox the extension is compatible with.

I am using Belkin usb wifi adapters F5D7050 I have 3 different chip
versions (speeds 8011b & 8011g) pick them up for a song on ebay.
Ubuntu installs the automatically no hassle.

My D-Link 650 PCMICA card sets up by itself, automatically from the getgo.. The
650+ and the Air G won't. Go figure. The latter are newer, I guess, more
sophisticated chips.

It takes time for some one to write a driver for the chip set. Intel gives out
the code with ease and thus intel chip set is first. Some people think that
Intel is windows based. Not at all. I'll ask you this. What program language is
use to test out Intel chips? Answer. Unix is the computer language use for the
computer chip manufactures by choice.
I use to work for a computer chip maker and that all the test programs use is
Unix. It is not flashy and it take less lines of code. It is simple and there is
a load to learn how chips are made.
Lets look at this way. Do you recall the early computers that can take up a
whole room in a house. Chip testers can take up the room up and some. The test
head to test a computer chip is big. Really big! As big as a compact car. Now
you have a machine to handle the chips to sort out good, bad, and ugly. It is
big as compact car all so.
MS Windows may have the market for home or biz PC use. It is no where near the
market how the chips are made and tested. Right now it is the chip makers that
dictate on what is faster and better. The software that runs it is now haven
trouble on keeping up. MS takes about a year or more to release the next wave of
the O/S. Linux O/S takes about 6 months average to keep up and release a new
kernel for it.
AMD and Intel are at a dog eat dog and each CPU take a different chip set to
support it. AMD put out 64 bit and then about the same time Intel. The problem
that lies is that MS and Linux have little support for 64 bit The reason why is
that the speed was too soon while most of the world are running 32 bit software.
This is where it going to get interesting.
