administrator password

Well, my neighbor's kids did it again. Only this time, she fouled up. She
managed to forget the administrator password :(

I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 on her laptop and it worked very well. Now,
however, he never wrote down the administrator (her) password.

Would it be possible to boot and run from CD and be able to view/save the
contents of the various accounts (to an external USB stick or driver)? It is
running NTFS (I think; if not, it is running Unix file system).

Thanks for any advice (and prayers LOL) you can offer.

Assuming it's still Linux then the site below will show you how to
reset the user password, with or without using a Live CD.

However - without that password they can't get into a lot of bother

Many thanks my friend

Finally got on to the computer again. I start a new department today and had to
retrieve an e-mail I sent from work with the new department and supervisor's
name on it. Dang! Sure wish I could get on a bit more often.
