1024 x 600 resolution with 16:9 screen scale

Date: Dec 12    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 504

I just bought a cheap Notebook for my daughter. The notebook's brand is
Quantel T-8 with specification as follow :
CPU AMD Geode 400MHZ
Memory DDR1 256MB
HDD : 60GB.
GPU AMD LX processor's Graphics Processor
Cache size : share EMS Memory 128MB.
TFT Sreeen size : 8" (16:9) Resolution 1024 x 600

I wonder Ubuntu system, it already installed in other CPU and notebook.
When I have installed Ubuntu 7.10 to Quantel T-8 (I can not install
8.10, cause memory only 256MB), I have problem with screen resolution.
There is no option 1024 x 600 of screen resolution. When I adjusted to
1024 x 768 or 800 x 600 dpi, some lines on screen are hidden and when
600 x 480, the display shown too big. May someone help me, how to adjust
screen resolution with 1024 x 600 dpi and 16:9 screen scale? I send
xorg.conf file below. Thank you.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Generic Video Card"
Driver "vesa"
BusID "PCI:0:1:1"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Generic Monitor"
Option "DPMS"
HorizSync 28-51
VertRefresh 43-60
EndSection

Your problem lies in having the generic drivers rather than ones specific to
your graphics card. Without the proper driver you cannot force it beyond what
you have simply by changing the resolution. You are stuck with basic vesa until
you install the restricted driver for your card.

You need to find out the chipset and post it for specific help.

I haad a similar problem with a desktop and Dell 1408 Monitor, 1440 x
900 px.

My initial install, 7.04 I believe would not configure to 16x10.

Have since up-graded to 8.10 and now 16x10 in native resolution is on
the menu.

Perhaps worth buying more ram, if you can easily add more, and going
for a more recent distribution.
