I used the Archive Manager to open my .zip files and extract the .ttf files
into my \Home\user\.fonts\ folder.

I used the Writer program which is part of OpenOffice.org 2.4 to create a
simple document and test that I could indeed use my true type fonts.

Also, you may be interested in the info on http://about.com -- the following
URL is for Linux and Fonts:

This URL (below) is a very comprehensive article called "Fonts 101" {which
I'll admit I have not had a chance to read the entire article}
