Help with Value in a Variable

Just wanted to make sure i was correct on a
couple of things. If I set  an integer or single data type variable  =
empty will the value in the variable be set to zero? Also am I
correct in that if I declare a integer or single data type variable
it is initialized and the value is set to zero?
