I would try "Beginning Ubuntu by: Keir Thomas" 1st or
"The Official Ubuntu Book by: Benjamin Mako Hill, Jono Bacon, Corey Burger" or
"Moving To Ubuntu Linux by: Marcel Gagné" next in line.

>What are some of the best books?

I think these three just about cover them.

Try Amazon.com for the. They have big discounts at the moment.

My problem with books is often I try to solve specific problems using
the book and discover that it has nothing in it to help with my specific
problem. They cover all the stuff I already know or that I don't really
care about.

Get a Debian book. More tech than Ubies books and more in depth.

I would get basic Linux books rather than a specific Ubuntu volume..
Ideal bedside reading..Teach yourself Linux...How Linux Works (No
Starch Press) and Debian System from the same publisher..Ideal books for
a new user to advanced user...The Teach Yourself book is an ideal
basic book for all users on all distros...

I am new to Ubuntu and Linux, wants to learn more. Is there any book you would
recomend? I bought a pocket book but it has nothing

which pocket book did you buy?

I only ask since the book I recommend is also a pocket-sized book.

Anyway, I recommend "Linux Phrasebook" by Scott Granneman
www.amazon.com/.../0672328380

This book is awesome, and even though I've been using linux for close
to 8 years, I still have not outgrown this book. It's not specific to Ubuntu or
any other Linux distro.

The book I would recommend is
Keir Thomas and Andy Channelle with Jaime Sicam " Beginning Ubuntu Linux fourth
edition: by Apress ISBN : 978-1-4302-1999-6
List price is $40.00, Copyright 2009.

Add note : I purchased this book on January 9th 2010 from Amazon under the list
price. However checking now the book is being sold above list price at Amazon by
other sellers and is completely sold out from Amazon. I tried other book sellers
and new books were sold out. The last link is most likely your best chance if
you decide to purchase this book.

These links are mainly from previous posts in this group (do not be put off by
the links for older versions of Ubuntu, if you can use an older version you can
certainly use the more up to date versions):
