I can receive mail OK but not send, settings look to be the same as I
have here in
ecomstation & Thunderbird.
Is it some thing in Ubuntu ?

post your mail config here. Dont post your username or password
though.

You only have a username, password, mail location to get and a mail
location to send. There is nothing different from linux to windows in
this regard.

Im sure its something simple

Did you configure an SMTP server with your mail account in evolution
or thunderbird ?

You need to tell your mail client what server will take care of
sending your mail.

In evolution, go Preference->edit your account-> "Send Mail" tab
and check if everything is set OK (including your User ID).

And try again!

If nothing works, the I would suspect a firewall or a proxy or
something like that. You should use wireshark to sniff the
conversation and find where exactly is the culprit.

Its got to be your POP3 settings. Best to recheck them
