SD card reader won't work.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my HP Compaq nc6000 laptop
and still have a small partition for XP Pro. In XP everything works
on the laptop including a built in SD Card reader. In Ubuntu it never
sees it weather I have a car in it or nor or when I insert/remove the
card. I have tried Goggle and the Ubuntu forums for help and still
can't find a solution.
