Printing Problem - Canon Pixma iX6500

Date: Feb 06    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 990

I've just set up my first Ubuntu PC. I am using the latest version of Ubuntu
and have downloaded all current updates.

I am having a problem with printing to a Canon Pixma iX6500. The iX6500 is
attached to a PC on my home network running Windows XP.

Ubuntu is configured to print with CUPS via SAMBA. The print file is completed
by Ubuntu and passes through the network. It shows up in the XP printer spool.
The ready light on the iX6500 blinks but printing never starts. It is as if
everything isn't making it to the printer.

You didn't mention that you have set up the printer using the printer
applet on the settings menu. I'm a Kubuntu user so your details may be
different but in any case the remote printer does need to be set up
locally. There is a driver for the Canon Pixma ix6500 listed. If the
printer was plugged in locally it might well be found and set up for
you, but it isn't plug and play when you do network printing.

This to me is the wrong printer driver, try loading another driver from
the same group - I say this because the light blinks which means that
something is being done that is not correct and that is a wrong printer
driver is loaded. eg I have a epson sx215 which only works with the
sx115 printer driver and the same could be applying to your canon

Ubuntu/Gutenprint has 2 versions of the Pixma iX6500 driver. I've tried them
both with the same result.

get the printer working locally then connect over the network.
