I bought an American Power Conversion backup unit, that comes with so-called
PowerChute software mainly aimed at Windows. Anyone know how to get PowerChute
working with 8.10?

There is a program in the repositories called ups if I recall.
If you open Synaptic and search for ups you should find programs that
will work with them.
