old laptop/cracked screen

Date: Dec 28    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 299

i got this old laptop which i've just pulled out of my closet.
the problem with it is that the screen is cracked, and there's like a
huge black spot in the middle, where the crack is. any way to get rid
of that? i want to install the new hardy beta on there and take a looksee.
i wiped the screen off with a wet paper towel, because there was a lot
of dirt and junk on it from sitting in my closet for two years, so water
might have gotten inside there.
anyway, anyone experience this sort of thing? not linux based per se.
although xandros is on the laptop.

If the screen is cracked then you need to locate a online dealer to get a used
screen for your model.

If any water got on your system, make sure its thoroughly dried out before
turning it on.

Depending on how old the unit is, what ram you have, speed of the cpu, will
depend on the quality of the running OS.

Sure, you can replace the screen without a lot of trouble is you have
some basic repair skills and a little phillips screwdriver. Just take
the rubber feet off of the bezel that wurrounds the screen and you will
find screws under them. Take the screws out and you should be able to
work the bezel free to expose the insides of the lid. Then remove the
cracked screen and on the back of it you will find the part number of
it. Type that part number in the search box at Ebay and you will
probably get dozens of hits for that screen and you can buy one and fix
the unit as good as new.
